This isn’t your mother’s fusion. The Bill Anschell Quartet’s eclectic approach is characterized by odd meters, screaming guitar, and occasional unintended bouts of serenity. The group’s repertoire ranges from Anschell’s originals (including tunes from his new Origin release “Improbable Solutions”), to pieces by jazz greats like Thelonious Monk, to Beatles songs. Anschell is joined by three of Seattle’s first-call players: guitarist Brian Monroney, bassist Chris Symer, and drummer Brad Boal. The group’s 2017 CD, Rumbler, earned rave reviews from the two leading jazz magazines: Downbeat and JazzTimes.
